Email Strategy: The Art of Email Subject Lines for Mobile

The power of a great email subject line is undeniable; when you harness that power, your campaigns and your open rates soar. The difficulty with subject lines, however, is real estate: You only have a few words to say something meaningful. And that’s especially true of mobile campaigns.

On most mobile devices, email subject lines truncate at five or six words So how do you write subject lines that catch subscribers’ attention and convince them to open…in just six words?! Brian Clark author of How To Write Magnetic Headlines suggests you use the Four U’s:

  1. Be useful to the reader
  2. Provide a sense of urgency
  3. Show your main product is unique
  4. And do all of the above in an ultra-specific way

Utilizing the Four U’s is all about understanding how important the subject line actually is. This is your chance to grab the reader by the hand and lead him into your message and, therefore, your call-to-action. Without a strong subject line, it doesn’t matter how great the rest of your message is.
