adtech takeaways.jpgLast week I visited New York City for ad:tech, a semi-annual marketing and media technology event.

This year’s ad:tech marks the 20th anniversary of the conference, which offers presentations by industry leaders, workshops and exhibitions of the latest technology. I’ve regularly attended the show since 2002, and this year I had the pleasure of manning the TowerData booth.

Though the event was brief, it was still a great opportunity for us to network with prospective customers as well as reconnect with current and past clients. If you couldn’t make it, here are a few key takeaways.

Email: The Heart of Digital Marketing

Throughout the year, I attend several conferences, the majority of which are dedicated to email marketing. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the main conversation topic at these shows is (you guessed it) email.

But ad:tech is an event for all types of digital marketing. So it was exciting when a lot of visitors to our booth and around the exhibit hall wanted to talk specifically about email marketing and the importance of the email address in linking actions across channels.

As we chatted about the future of email and its position as a strategic component of digital and cross-channel marketing, I was excited to find TowerData well-positioned in addressing the current and future needs of the industry.

The Role of Email in Other Technologies

Other vendors exhibiting at ad:tech ran the gamut from social media advertising software to marketing automation solutions to e-commerce data analytics platforms.

What I witnessed as I explored these technologies is that many relied on their clients to have a good handle on their email database to either connect user activity across multiple channels or to make the tools they had more robust. This helped validate our plans to further assist brands with existing and improved solutions but also enable and leverage up-and-coming marketing technology innovations.

On top of the chance to compare notes, learn from experts and hear about what’s on the horizon for digital marketing, the TowerData Chicago team celebrated the first World Series victory for the Cubs in 108 years, surrounded by longtime partners and new friends. At the conclusion of the conference, the entire TowerData team got a jump-start on celebrating our 15th anniversary. Overall, ad:tech was a great show filled with great conversations about email and beyond.
